Daredevil: Born Again was “always supposed to” end with Season 3 despite

Marvel, perhaps unsurprisingly, pulled the plug on the future of Daredevil: Born Again, but it seems it’s trying to play a bit of damage control, claiming it was always supposed to end with Season 3.

During a chat on The Brandon Davis Show, head of Marvel Television, Brad Winderbaum, asserted the show was planned to end with the third season, with the break from the character acting as some time to “figure out what’s next for the character.”

“The plan was always to culminate at 3, because the way we’re looking at it, the original [Netflix] series is 3 seasons, Born Again is 3 seasons. They’re kind of like trade paperbacks or collections that you can slot into your shelves, like these are two 3-volume sets, and then we will take a breath and figure out what’s next for the character.”

Unfortunately for Winderbaum, though, fans are skeptical, especially since the show had a pretty rough landing between Season 1 and Season 2, we’re talking a reported 50% drop in viewership between seasons. Meanwhile, back in 2025 with Screen Rant, Winderbaum himself saw potential with the show having “Season Infinity,” holding an annualized March-bound season release every year.

Frankly, we wouldn’t be too shocked if viewership simply wasn’t there for Marvel and Disney to consider throwing more money at it. It feels similar to something like Spider-Noir, the extremely ambitious collab between Amazon MGM and Marvel, which starred Nicolas Cage. It released its first season only to end up in the bin before a second one could be greenlit.
